My name is Suzanne Wood. I’m a sociologist and school ethnographer. I use qualitative research methods to explore how race, class, gender, and power shape the everyday realities of students and teachers in K-12 Elementary Schools. My work focuses on the ways schools - though intended to promote equality - often reflect and reproduce broader social inequalities. Drawing from critical sociological and organizational frameworks, I examine how structural forces intersect with classroom life, particularly in urban districts facing resource scarcity and high-stakes accountability. I am committed to making visible the lived experiences of students impacted by systemic injustice - and to imagining more just and humanizing possibilities for schooling. |
